A CATHODE OF ALUMINIUM POT, including a metallic cathode shell with openings for passing cathode rods, bottom blocks with cathode rods, a lining, put between bottom blocks and cathode shell walls and made of heat resistant, self solidifying material, and a sealing arranged around the cathode rods in the points of their sticking out, wherein the lining, put between bottom blocks and cathode shell walls is segmented; the layer of compressed material is put between its segments; where the lining is adjacent to cathode rods there is a layer of material, providing the sliding of cathode rods and lining relatively to each other and the compensation of their thermal expansion.

2. The cathode according to claim 1, wherein the thickness of the layer between lining segments is defined according to the relation:
